Field note: build the thing you keep wishing for

Someone sketching at an evening desk beneath a pinned board of notes

For six months I have been quietly building my own project management tool in the evenings. Not because the world needs another one, but because I kept wishing for one that worked the way I actually work.

Building it forced honesty. Every feature I sketched had to answer a question: is this something projects truly need, or something I have just grown used to seeing?

Most of what I kept from Trello, Jira and Confluence turned out to be three or four ideas. The rest was furniture.

You do not have to build software to get this. Write down what your ideal week of work looks like, then notice how far your tools are from it. That gap is the real finding.
